Craft Night for Sept. 9: Do Not Forget about NetSquared First

This week, look forward to another Craft Night to help you satisfy all your crafty urges.  Stop by and create a scrapbook, make some jewelry, screen-print a t-shirt, or just come to marvel at all the awesomeness we can fit into one Tuesday night.

Don’t forget that this Craft Night will be preceded by NetSquared’s September meetup with speaker Shawna Forney of Diverseworks.¬† Here’s a little bit of what Diverseworks and NetSquared are about:

NetSquared: Houston NetSquared is the Houston chapter of the amazing national organization NetSquared. We are an organization dedicated to linking nonprofits (and the humans that run them) with technology. An eclectic bunch, our members are a blend of nonprofit workers, geeks and curious people.¬† Every month (on the 2nd Tuesday), we meet at Stag’s Head Pub (2128 Portsmouth) from 7-9pm, to discuss social issues, new technologies and how to connect people and causes with online solutions that can make a difference. Most meetings feature a local nonprofit leader or advocate to discuss what issues their organizations are facing.

Diverseworks: Diverseworks is a non-profit art center dedicated to presenting new visual, performing, and literary art. DiverseWorks is a place where the process of creating art is valued and where artists can test new ideas in the public arena. By encouraging the investigation of current artistic, cultural and social issues, DiverseWorks builds, educates, and sustains audiences for contemporary art.

When: September 9, 2008 7:00 PM

Where: Stag’s Head Pub
2128 Portsmouth St.
Houston, TX 77098
(713) 533-1199

Even if you can’t stop by to see this month’s speaker, be sure to check out NetSquared and Diverseworks online.

But wait. There’s more!!

In the coming weeks we will have people into Craft Night teaching how to make durable cloth out of plastic bags, panniers, and a return of Evan O’Neil (evanoneil.net) to provide hands on experience with silk-screening.

Bring in your old hard drives to Caroline for a future Craft Night where Matthew Wettergreen will teach you how to make wind chimes to add some musical quality to your exterior porch life.

Hey all, just letting you know that I’ll be bringing my swift and ball winder with me to craft night tomorrow. If you have hanks of yarn that you need to wind into easy to knit from balls/cakes, bring them and we can wind them!
