More on diaper need:

A basic need for infants and toddlers, diapers can cost $100 to $125 per month per child. In a two-person family living at the poverty level consisting of parent and child, diapers can command 10.2 percent of a family’s annual budget.
Approximately 41 percent of Harris County children receive nutritional assistance from the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program, but this benefit does not include diapers. In families where parents cannot buy an adequate diaper supply, children frequently wear one diaper for a day or longer, which can lead to diaper rash, extreme irritability and even abuse by the parents.

By providing diaper donations to DePelchin’s Transitional Living Program and SEARCH’s House of Tiny Treasures, Diaper Houston volunteers will help these agencies use resources towards other needs of their clients.

More on Diaper Houston:

Susan Richardson Barnes and Lisa Chmiola Burns, co-founders of Diaper Houston, began the event a year ago as an alternative to the typical birthday celebration. They settled on the idea of a birthday/benefit, and Drinks, Desserts &
Diapers was born. After the first year’s success (collecting nearly 7,000 diapers), they recognized just how great need is in Houston and created Diaper Houston, dedicated to ending diaper need in the area.

“Diaper need is an issue many Houstonians are unaware exists,” said Burns. “We hope through this annual event, we can make a difference in the lives of many area children by ensuring access to an adequate diaper supply.”
