We’ve decided to make each Tuesday night in October at Caroline Collective open to events proposed by our community. We’ve taken in your submissions over the last month and we’re ready to announce the Tuesday event schedule!
Montrose Art Society: 12 Headed Self-Portrait (October 4th)
The MAS folks will be starting off the month with a portrait session. The event will be open to the public but some details are still being confirmed.
Austin Govella: Design + Code Potluck (October 11th)
This workshop is engineered to improve the quality of Houston startup projects by getting the local UXers, entrepreneurs, and developers in one place. It’s like musical chairs, speed dating, and a friendly critique for startups! Here’s how it works:
1. Entrepreneur groups (like GroundUp Houston), developer groups (like
iPhone, python, php, rails), and design groups (like UX Houston, AIGA
Houston, and the web design meetup) are all invited to Caroline
Collective on a Tuesday.
2. Entrepreneurs and developers all give a 1 minute elevator pitch to the group.
3. Entrepreneurs and developers scatter to all ends of the room,
prepared with screenshots, sketches, or laptops with
prototypes/working code.
4. UXers and designers rotate around the room meeting all these
dreamers and startups, giving constructive critiques to products that
grab their attention. (Things like: “On your homepage, you don’t
explain why I should bother signing up.” Or, “It’s not clear where to
click”, etc.)
We’re excited to see what relationships and apps spring out of it!
The Square Foot: Leasing Space in Houston For “Dummies” (October 18th)
Our friends at The Square Foot will bring this workshop, which will cover basic issues of searching for office and commercial space, leases, hidden costs, and how to best prepare to lease space for your business. The guys at the Square Foot know commercial real estate. More information TBA.
Craftnight with Dismount Creative (October 25th)
Dismount Creative will guide us through a special Halloween craft night! Dismount will bring some supplies to get us started, but feel free to bring your own craft and work alongside everyone. Get down and get crafty!
