Chris Welsh is president and founder of Mastery of Learning, an international education and consulting company specializing for more than 20 years in the application of chaos and complexity concepts to accelerated learning, project management, creativity, and change management.

Chris began his unique research and development of nontraditional learning techniques in 1969, while training killer whales and dolphins for the U.S. Navy in Hawaii and earning a black belt in aikido. Chris has shared the stage and worked with Buckminster Fuller and Ilya Prigogine.

Since 1979, Chris has trained thousands of people in the United States, Canada, and Europe to rediscover their natural ability to learn, transition, create, and innovate.

Houston Technology Collective, Welcome!

We’re really excited to welcome our newest members, the Houston Technology Collective. They’re a community of DIY tech enthusiasts setting up shop in the big office in the back of the north building.

We have a lot in common. Like us, they’re a community project to create a shared collaborative workspace, where their members can meet, work, share equipment and knowledge. Also like us, they’re part of a loose network of similar spaces — hacker spaces, they call them — popping up all over the world. A recent Wired magazine article reports that “there are now 96 known active hacker spaces worldwide, with 29 in the United States.”

From their website, the purpose of the Houston Tech Collective is to:

Build and maintain physical spaces suitable for technical and social collaboration.
Collaborate on all forms of technology, culture and craft in new and interesting ways.
Apply the results of its work to specific cultural, charitable and scientific causes.
Freely share its research and discoveries, using what is learned to teach others.
Recruit and develop talented members dedicated to these purposes.

Solutions for Better Living

The mission of Solutions for Better Living (SBL) is to serve as a catalyst to galvanize and support individuals in taking strategic action to improve the health and well being of those living in their communities. SBL is committed to building upon and strengthening the multisectoral, collaborative partnerships between the government agencies, public sector organizations and other not-for-profit organizations, that we have developed throughout Houston to promote social entrepreneurship.

SBL‚Äôs project management team works directly with community coordinators with providing seed funding, management, development, organizational structuring, financial projections and budgeting, public relations, marketing concepts, project efficacy assessment, and expansion planning. Community project coordinators receive guided assistance through the resource center, community project workshops, and other program educational services.

True Light Resources is a Houston, Texas based Website and Creative Design Studio with a unique approach to branding, marketing and graphic design. We seek to learn the fundamental nature of our clients’ companies, corporate culture, roots, personality, diversity of the people, goals, etc. Using this collected data we create an electronic vision, producing web designs and marketing material as individualized as the clients we serve. Our hands-on service model and client interaction are vital elements used to produce effective Logo, Print and Web site design.

Werkadoo Werkshop May 6: Financial Planning

On May 6 Werkadoo and Caroline Collective will host a free business workshop led by Adam Blumberg.

This workshop will focus on educating the attendees regarding asset protection, wealth accumulation, retirement planning, and tax reduction strategies. We will talk about a ‚ÄúFinancial Home‚Äù ‚Äì the analogy for a solid financial plan ‚Äì including emergency funds, life and disability insurance strategies, retirement and college saving, and other investments. We will discuss ways to calculate the amount of protection needed and how to allocate toward different retirement savings vehicles.

Adam will also be open to answering questions, so please come prepared to ask. The presentation usually lasts 45 minutes to an hour, depending on questions.

Adam Blumberg is a Financial Services Professional with Strategic Financial Group in Houston. He focuses on helping young professionals, business owners, and families with special needs find ways to protect their assets, grow their wealth, and reduce their taxes.

After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin with a BBA in Finance, Adam worked for Intel Corp., and a CPA firm in Houston. He then spent several years in the start-up technology world, first as the Director of Business Development for a custom application development company, then as the co-founder and president of a software and IT service company. Adam sold the company to one of his employees so he could go back to his financial roots.

Adam lives in Houston with his wife, Camila, and their two dogs.

The Werkshops are a bi-monthly series of free classes geared to help people start or improve their own businesses. They are a project of Werkadoo.

If you’ve been by Caroline recently, you’ve discovered that we’ve had the North coworking space closed for renovations. We’re not quite done yet, but we wanted to give you a peak into what’s ahead. When we’re all finished, here’s what you’ll enjoy:
