The Furniture Bank of Houston (http://www.fb-houston.org) will be the beneficiary of any unswapped/unsold furniture. We’re seeking another local charity/charities to receive clothing and miscellaneous items – if you know of one that would appreciate gently used items, please contact @gracerodriguez.

BAKERS: Feel free to bring goodies to raise money for your favorite charity…even if it’s yourself!)

How it works:

1. Sign up to be a Swapper/Seller and/or Baker (Browser/Buyers can simply RSVP)
2. You’ll receive an email with detail on table space and set-up time
3. Hunt for & gather the treasures you no longer want
4. Bring them to Caroline Collective on July 11 – don’t forget to bring change for buyers!
5. Early morning: Sell!
6. Lunchtime: Swap! (&Sell;!)
7. Afternoon: Sell! Sell! SEll!
8. At the end of the day, all unswapped/unsold stuff (and cash!) can be donated directly to local charities (pick up times will be pre-arranged)

A blend of the traditional and experimental, Beyond the Print presents the work of the University of Houston’s Spring Block 2010 Program students. This medley of artists begins with a foundation in traditional photography — exploring large format prints, experimenting with 35mm and digital processes — and then departs from the norm, quickly moving into installation and electronic means of presentation.

The themens range from broad societal issues to more introspective thoughts. Taken together, Beyond the Print creates not a dialogue with the viewer, but a symposium. Each artist imparts a distinct tone to lens-based image making.

Beyond the Print introduces us to eight emerging artists: Michael Burgas, Britney Connelly, Osman Galindo, Vanessa Godden, Daniela Hernandez, Fatmeh Hmaidan, Gisela Parker, and Thais Verissimo. The show is curated by Shannon Duncan with the assistance of Ned Dodington and Geoff Smith. Beyond the Print is sponsored by C2 Creative and hosted by Caroline Collective.

Caroline Collective co-founder Matthew Wettergreen, along with Brad Wright and Philip Beck, have just launched a website (do713.com) that aims to be the centralized, consolidated webspace containing information about upcoming Houston events, ranging from art events to concerts to literary events, and everything in between. The party will have DJs spinning throughout the night and complimentary refreshments will be provided by Shiner Beer and Deep Eddy Vodka. The launch party is sure to be a great way to kick off the summer at Caroline Collective with visualizations by Culture Pilot, computers by Recompute and an after party by AList Magazine.

But if you still have gaps in your own personal expertise, this event’s for you. Join us for a low-budget way to gain a lot of useful, hands-on info in a fun and action-packed half-day session. WHAT: Caroline Collective will be hosting the upcoming Texas Association of Lawyers and Accountants Estate Planning Workshop.

Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA) was formed in 1979 to meet the legal and accounting needs of artists and nonprofit organizations. TALA volunteers throughout Texas handle more than 350 matters per year. This amounts to more than six hundred thousand dollars annually in donated services to the arts and cultural community.

TALA provides free legal and accounting services to arts nonprofits and artists from all creative disciplines, including visual artists, musicians, actors, dancers, film makers and writers. Over 600 attorneys and accountants donate their time to artists and nonprofit organizations who are unable to afford professional services. Without TALA, their problems would remain unresolved and their interests unrepresented.

Caroline Collective is proud to announce that one of the speakers of C2 Creative talk, MaryBeth Smith, will be holding another session of regular Feldenkrais classes at Caroline Collective for 6 consecutive Thursdays, beginning on March 11th. These classes will be led by MaryBeth Smith, Director of the Feldenkrais Center of Houston, and a nationally recognized authority on the improvement of human potential and performance.

Here’s a recap of the Feldenkrais method: As humans, we are constantly engaged in a dynamic and ongoing process of moving, thinking, feeling, and sensing. With Classes and Lessons in the Feldenkrais Method, you will become more aware of how you move in habitual ways. Each lesson helps you to explore alternatives that you might not have thought of otherwise. Through increased awareness, you learn to move with minimal effort and maximum efficiency. As Moshe Feldenkrais said,

“We can. . .make the impossible, possible; the possible, easy; and the easy, elegant.”

The movements of the Feldenkrais Method are suitable for anyone of any age or level of physical fitness. Join us on Thursday nights from 6:30pm – 7:30pm to unwind, destress and experience awareness of your body through movement.
