What a difference a year makes. Friday night, amongst family and friends, Caroline Collective held an intimate gathering celebrating two years of community and shared success. In contrast to past years, this event was not framed from the standpoint of inviting every member of the community for a loud and outlandish party. It was a coming to terms with the fact that we’ve grown up, that we’re serious and that we are poised to turn into something that we can all stand by and be proud of.

Several important announcements were made during Caroline Collective Co-Founders Ned Dodington and Matthew Wettergreen’s brief-ish address to the crowd.

Matthew Wettergreen will be returning in August to run Caroline Collective full-time. We are sure this will allow Caroline Collective to become the professional, inspiring and productive work space that we all believe it can be.

There is one person at Caroline Collective that over the two years has contributed significant mind-share, constantly supported the space through outspoken promotion and holding fundraisers for the community. This person is already very much a part of our family and we love her very much. We have decided to invite Grace Rodriguez to be a part owner in Caroline Collective.

Caroline Collective’s Creative Incubator, C2, is poised to launch. C2 Creative is a nonprofit organization that provides creative startups, groups, individuals and professionals with the education, guidance and resources needed for a successful launch. Check out what’s coming next at http://www.c2creative.cc/.

We will soon be launching a capital campaign to raise much needed funds for much needed improvements surrounding the building and grounds. By this we mean: a new HVAC unit, re-paving the back lot, an automated gate, video security system and a new and upgraded coworking space.

Thanks to Caroline Collective member Tom Paynter of Paynter Media, you can watch the whole speech.

One of the best comments of the night was “These announcements are on the order of It’s About F*cking Time!”

We’ve demonstrated that we can walk. This fall we run. Won’t you join us.

Caroline Collective will begin hosting it’s next art exhibition. Beyond the Print will open on Friday July 16th with an opening reception from 7pm-10pm at Caroline Collective (4820 Caroline).

A blend of the traditional and experimental, Beyond the Print presents the work of the University of Houston’s Spring Block 2010 Program students. This medley of artists begins with a foundation in traditional photography — exploring large format prints, experimenting with 35mm and digital processes — and then departs from the norm, quickly moving into installation and electronic means of presentation.

The themens range from broad societal issues to more introspective thoughts. Taken together, Beyond the Print creates not a dialogue with the viewer, but a symposium. Each artist imparts a distinct tone to lens-based image making.

Beyond the Print introduces us to eight emerging artists: Michael Burgas, Britney Connelly, Osman Galindo, Vanessa Godden, Daniela Hernandez, Fatmeh Hmaidan, Gisela Parker, and Thais Verissimo. The show is curated by Shannon Duncan with the assistance of Ned Dodington and Geoff Smith. Beyond the Print is sponsored by C2 Creative and hosted by Caroline Collective.

We hope you can make it out for the opening!

On Tuesday, April 27th, please join us at Caroline Collective as the Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts organization provides a workshop for Estate Planning with Pizazz. This workshop will be led by Mary Galligan of TALA.

WHAT: Caroline Collective will be hosting the upcoming Texas Association of Lawyers and Accountants Estate Planning Workshop.

WHO: TALA members and members of the Caroline Collective community.

WHERE: Main coworking space in north building at Caroline Collective.

WHEN: April 27, 5:30pm-7:30pm

Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts (TALA) was formed in 1979 to meet the legal and accounting needs of artists and nonprofit organizations. TALA volunteers throughout Texas handle more than 350 matters per year. This amounts to more than six hundred thousand dollars annually in donated services to the arts and cultural community.

TALA provides free legal and accounting services to arts nonprofits and artists from all creative disciplines, including visual artists, musicians, actors, dancers, film makers and writers. Over 600 attorneys and accountants donate their time to artists and nonprofit organizations who are unable to afford professional services. Without TALA, their problems would remain unresolved and their interests unrepresented.
